Disability Advocate

At Disability Advocates Australia, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals, families, and carers within the disability community. Located in Morayfield, within the heart of Moreton Bay City, we proudly serve as advocates, navigating pathways for crucial government funding, and providing guidance and support to empower those who need it most.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Providing a range of crucial services to empower individuals with disabilities:

  • Supporting people to self-advocate where this is appropriate.
  • Navigating pathways to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Department of Social Services for Disability Support Pension (DSP).
  • Assistance in finding the necessary support and services.
  • Guidance and assistance with NDIS reviews, pre-planning meetings, change of situation, service providers, and support.
  • Systemic advocacy to address widespread challenges faced by our clients.

ABOUT YOU

You are a passionate, compassionate, and skilled advocate with extensive experience in the disability sector and, a strong understanding of the NDIS and/or DSP.

You will also bring: (Essential)

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise with a wide range of people such as clients, their families, friends, service providers, and government departments.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage time frames and competing priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with people in stress or crisis.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of the social model of disability and practical commitment to the human rights of people with disability
  • Commitment to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice, which includes respect for culture, Aboriginality, religion, sexuality, ethnicity, gender, age, and disability.

Desirable

  • Certificate/diploma qualifications in social sciences or related discipline
  • Direct or lived experience with disability.
  • Previous experience in the community services sector or government sector
  • Previous experience in the health, community, or legal services sector
  • Ability to travel within the Moreton Bay City area.

Conditions of Employment (Compulsory)

  1. A satisfactory Police Records Check.
  2. Satisfactory Referee checks to confirm capacity to undertake the role.

 

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

Award Classification: Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services (SCHADS) Award 2010, F/T $75,000 – $85,000 plus 11% super depending on experience.

Shut down period between Christmas/New Year, to enhance staff health and wellbeing.
